Whole Spartan

The EDLI Team works with faculty to help leverage their own values in combination with the scholarly literature to improve the student experience. Our work sits at the intersection of teaching, learning, and technology, and seeks to bring about broader changes in higher education that are focused on diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible learning.

In order to create those types of learning environments, we must recognize who our students are and value what they bring to our classrooms. EDLI founding values of generosity, flexibility, and transparency support the Whole Spartan initiative.

Built off of the Whole Child work in K-12, the Whole Spartan understands that in order for our students to find success in our classrooms, we first need to create safe learning environments. From there we are then able to consider our pedagogical plans. More information about the tenants of the Whole Spartan initiative can be found in this slide deck presented during the 2018 Michigan State University Spring Conference for Teaching & Learning.
